RBS Breakfast Club met last week on March 21st at our regular venue, Dome Cafe in Waikiki. As usual, it was an excellent opportunity for like-minded local business owners to get together and share their ideas and experiences.

During the meeting, we acknowledged that the Local Government Elections are coming up towards the end of the year, but we decided not to extend an invite to any candidate to meet with the group. We also attempted to play “Two Truths and A Lie” as part of our 30-second elevator pitches, but some of us felt like we needed more time to prepare. We decided to try that game again next time and that our we would remind everyone ahead of time.

Our group discussion topic was Cold Calling, Prospecting, and Lead Generation. The highlight of this talk was Sarah from Signing Australia sharing her perspective that when prospecting for new referral partners, she goes into it with the attitude of providing help and benefit to the other person first. By doing so, she builds a relationship based on trust and mutual benefit. She believes that by helping the other person achieve their goals, they will be more inclined to help her achieve hers.

We were fortunate to have Ben from ID Automotive as our featured presenter. Ben shared his perspective on the importance of good customer service and specializing in what you’re good at. He also shared a fascinating story of how he ended up in Rockingham. Back in the UK, he was a specialist trained on German cars. A local mechanic here in Perth was struggling to find someone to fix a particular specialist problem and couldn’t find a single person who could do the job anywhere in Perth. So Ben was contacted in the UK and was convinced to come out to do the work. Upon arriving, he and his wife fell in love with the area and the weather and decided to stay.

Our next meeting is coming up, and it’s an excellent opportunity to learn about building trust with your customers/clients. Karen of Duxbury Consulting and Maria of Parnita’s Yoga will be our featured presenters.
