We’ve been a little slack in updating our blog, but that doesn’t mean we’ve been slack at RBS Breakfast Club.
This morning was another great session of local business owners coming together to share referrals, discuss ideas and learn from each other. Today’s featured presentations were from Ann of Robburns Financial Services, Rebecca of RockyPest, and David of Rockingham Naked IT Solutions.
Featured Presentations
First up we heard from Ann and the importance of making sure you have your financial affairs correctly set up before you retire. It seems two people in almost identical situations can have vastly different retirements, including qualifying for the aged pension, based on how their assets and debts are arranged. Did you know Centrelink will take debt on an investment property into account, but not debt attached to the family home? This is the type of insight Ann can help with, as these small changes can make a big difference to your retirement.
Rebecca from Rockypest told us of the dangers of not protecting your property from termite damage. Pest control can deal with the infestation if you call them early enough, or better still, have an annual inspection scheduled. If you leave it for a few years in between inspections, they can do a lot of damage, and often, home insurance doesn’t cover termite damage. So check your insurance policy and make sure you get your annual inspection carried out by a qualified and licensed professional.

Lastly, we heard from David of Rockingham Naked IT Solutions who gave us an update on the fallout of the recent Optus data breach. It seems there are a lot of people who now need to get their identification replaced. Either their passport or driver’s license, depending on which they used when they first set up their account. His advice is to never use your passport as it’s much harder to replace should your ID ever be compromised.

Group Discussion
As is often the case, we started talking about one business topic and ended up discussing other stuff as well. What started as a conversation about the upcoming end of 2022 and what actions we’re putting in place for the busy Christmas period, became a conversation about upselling to existing customers being a better option than always trying to find new ones, the benefits of offering gift cards, the difference between “transactional” sales and “relationship/trust-based” sales, and how we should never dismiss the idea of a sideline offering that could be really profitable. The story of a woman’s dress shop that started offering spray-on tans as an upsell was a great example.
Guests & Visitors
We had two guests join us today, so a big welcome to Jackie from Margaret River To You, and Karen from Duxbury Consulting.
